Hey guys & gals, wanted to see if anyone has seen anything on this being done: again trying to cut costs and combine the subfloor with the finished hardwood floor, can I just lay 3/4" T&G planking and call it done?

Still trying to find it without an eased edge but even box store pricing is around $1.40/sf. Seems like this would be great vs a hardwood floor + some form of subflooring. However, granted, it would be less stiff.

After some research I saw that this is how they used to be done (beginning of the 20th century). I'm wondering if I should reduce my spacing from 16" OC to 12" OC just to ensure that the floors are still solid.

I would be concerned with bounce, 12 inch might do it. Could look into 2x6 T&G Spruce as well for stronger option, won't be a true hardwood floor but we have used it.
