I built a small curved flower bed out of cinder blocks once. Covered to outside with stucco. Got the idea from an old how to book I had from the 60's. Part of my mom's library. Project came out good. The book above is more detailed.

gw99, thank you for for the warm welcome! That sounds like the approach I will end up taking. How did you maintain the curvature? I know that with a straight wall you can just have a taught piece of string but the only thing that I could come up with was calculating the center of the radius and tying a string to it, and then using the end of the string to check the joints of the cinder blocks.

KVR, is the new book that you are referring to "Earth-Sheltered Houses"? I will likely have to order it as I do not know if B&N will have a copy. Right now I am working on the calculations for thermal mass vs windows on south facing wall vs overhang distance. However, I will discuss this in another thread as it deviates from the original topic of curved-wall building. As I encounter more issues with the curved-wall approach I will enter them here.

icanreachit, sorry it took me so long to respond. I was away for a few days.

I put a stake in the ground and got a string a drew my circle. Since it was just a flower bed, I didnt have to worry too much if it wasnt perfect. I like the book that KVR posted above and may get a copy of it myself.

 good luck on your project.
