Maybe I am mixing up several topics here, but I will take a stab.

Need a fence for the dog to run, and spend some time outside when I am away for a long day or so.

This topic could easily lead into a perimeter security topic as well. KVR will remember his thread on the other forum. I had my cars rummaged through again, gps, and a few other small items taken. I probably left the doors unlocked. Maybe I should save this part for another section involving fence backyard or entire yard.

Back to the fence question:

1) Hire a company to do chain link, maybe the black chain link fence ?

or

2) Build a post and rail fence, with wire between rail/boards ?

I kenneled off a small area at my old house with chain link and I paid just under 1400 for a 20x40 area. I think I paid around 600 for our current backyard doing it ourselves and that area is about 120x150. Our local supply company had the posts and rails on sale for 12 dollars a set at the time. Sorry to hear about your car willie, that sucks

Thanks will post pictures soon of a fence at a park.

Sort of like the way it looks......

As dumb as it sounds, I do like the idea of building it, so that I know how to expand or contract, repair as needed.

That sucks, man. I might be building a fence soon so this thread pertains to me as well.

Just for reference I talked to a nearby neighbor who went with the black chain link fence did a perimeter around their house (still has large yard/pasture area not covered:

500 ft = $ 5,000 installed by a local company

500 ft quote $ 7,500 by Lowes

Think maybe could use a little sturdier wire, but overall I really like this fence.

Thoughts ? Comments ?

Keep in mind my first goal is to give the dog a place to run, and so that I can leave her out for extended hours while away from home.
