Think maybe could use a little sturdier wire, but overall I really like this fence.

Thoughts ? Comments ?

Keep in mind my first goal is to give the dog a place to run, and so that I can leave her out for extended hours while away from home.

I think you will be surprised how expensive that fence will be, it looks like pressure treated 4x4 posts and pressure treated decking for the rails. I just called home depot and a 4x4x10 is 13 dollars and a 1x8x8 pressure treated is 8 dollars, you are down south so you might get away with cutting the 4x4's in half and burying 1 to 2 feet depending on the height you want. That's still going to run you 48 dollars a 8 foot section not including cement and wire if you do the 4 rails and the hand rail on top.

We went with the split rail which can run anywhere for 12 to 18 dollars for a post and two rails for a 8 foot section. We stapled the 3x2 wire on the inside and it has kept our three dogs in no problem

check out the pre paneled fences at home depot, they are usually a inexpensive option if you like the picket fence look

Kvr,

Thanks, I do need to keep in mind the first purpose it to give the dog a place to spend time outside and to run.

What do you think of the fence I posted but using only a top and a bottom rail ? In other words reduce the cost etc, by removing some of the material ?

Hm looks like the style of fence you posted would go up pretty easy and straight forward.

No problems with digging at the bottom ?

Thanks for another option.

Trying to sort this out, hire fence company, or maybe try something like we are talking about in the backyard first, and see what I learn or need to change.

Another thing I have thought about is a black chain link in the front, maybe to add a bit of perimeter security, then do the wooden or rail fence in the backyard.

And remember, you are trying to help this little bugger.

So thanks for advice, she is a digger and a jumper, can jump really high.

yeah, you could easily remove some of those rails, we have never had a issue with the dogs trying to dig out, but our dogs are not that active, they are quite lazy actually lol

Update, not to let the forum down, but I am getting a quote for someone else to do the fence.

Hard to decide which points of the house and yard to cover, however, I am sure when the quotes come in the situation will start to sort itself out :)

I did think of one idea which would allow for the fence to provide a good bit of space for the dog in the back yard (also provide a barrier to all rear windows) and coverage under a car port (shelter for the dog), but through the use of a secondary gate "system" using some existing stairs and wrought iron I would also have a a barrier fence and dog between 2 out of 3 doors.

At a minimum that should slow or stop pesky door to door sales people, but most importantly provide some good shelter for the dog while outside. This set up would also lend itself to using a "doggy door" for times I may be away from home for long hours.

Also getting a quote for perimeter fence, but am guessing it will be quite pricey.

If not I may at least consider putting the 3 door behind fence as well.

This brings me to the topic of general ways to improve perimeter security from prowlers, and thieves.

Any threads on ways to strengthen doors etc ?
