I wanted to get the opinion of people who use or are very familiar with Gabion Walls. I am thinking about using Gabion Walls as an above ground lap pool. My thought is to wire expanded steel lath to the inside of the Gabion cages and using A cement mixture of sand Portland Cement and acrylic addative as a type of ferro cement. Between 3/4 and 1 inch thick, also doing similar to the bottom of the pool, then plastering the whole pool. It would of course include plumbing, solar heating for winter and possibly electrical for solar lighting.

The pool would be 10' x 80' x 4' deep. I'm also considering 2 inches of polystyrene between cages and lath.

Any suggestions?

welcome @garbear777 , sounds like a great project, think there would be any concern with the gabion shifting and causing a concern with cracking the shell? My experience with gabion is very limited, currently working on a wall with integrated cook area.

Thank You KVR! That's one of the things I'm wondering about. Would I need to make the Gabion walls thicker or maybe just make large outriggers or posts every 6 feet. I am on flat ground although a sandy clay.

Im thinking the acrylic should make the ferro cement somewhat flexible.

I would add gabion pilasters on the outside every 6 feet or so for lateral stability for sure, why are you going with gabion? Cost or look?
