I was thinking of building a 29ft wide 17ft tall Geodesic dome for a family cabin. The actual framing is very cost effective and adding a loft or 2nd floor with the room inside would be easy. My biggest drawback has been what to cover it with? I really would rather not use shingles as I like to collect rain water. I was thinking of covering the frame with canvas and then having it sprayed with Line X. It may be a little costly but my thoughts are that it would last forever be water tight and borderline indestructible. Then spray foam the inside and finish with pine or something. I would make some areas glass for windows and skylights. But overall this seems to be an idea I can t get out of my head lol

What are your thoughts?

Here is an Idea of what im talking about.

They are very easy to build.

I was thinking the bed liner roof system or using thin concrete canvas depending on the cost of each. The concrete would insulate better but I worry about weight and potential areas to not stay water tight like the spray liner would.

Those are pretty sweet. What about fiberglassing? Your comment about canvas made me think that you could probably get some canvas pulled tight and either spray shotcrete (likely to sag alot) or fiberglass it. You could do little eaves over the window areas too.

You could always do the spray liner over that if you aren't happy with it.

That's not a bad idea either.

I like all the positives to a dome style home. Just kicking ideas around for the most part.

I ordered some brackets so I can build the kids a 15ft wide 7ft tall playhouse.

Im going to build it and cover it with canvas and roll on bedliner to see how it holds up.

Ill post pics when the progress starts.

If you are thinking of going that route, I would look at monolithic domes
