Equipment and materials are listed. Patching is shown in basic steps: placing traffic control devices, marking the defective area, cutting out the defective material, cleaning out the hole, filling the hole with granular material, compacting the fill, and cleaning the worksite. Weather conditions and equipment are discussed. Smoothing is demonstrated in the following steps: placing traffic signs, marking limits for smoothing, blading the surface to form a windrow, and spreading the windrow. The reshaping process is demonstrated in the same steps, with the addition of checking the crown and cross slope, and compacting the surface.

Repairs are demonstrated in detail in several steps: placing the traffic control devices, cleaning the surface area, marking the limits of repair work, applying tack coat, spreading and compacting leveling layers, placing and compacting the overlay, and cleaning the work area.
