From my research over the years the only option I have heard was people build a freestanding roof, kind of like we had built with our greenhouse
that way people could see the termite mud tubes being built up the side of the building and treat the areas. that's the only option I have heard of. If you go to page 127 of the book on scribd it addresses case studies in the south and things they did to deal with it.

my house was built in the late 50's. It's a cement block home but while doing some repairs I noticed something ... pretty awesome about this ol' house.
The builders were thinking about this same problem ( I also live in the deep south) and the builder's idea to combat that problem was to use only REDWOOD inside the walls and for the roof. I opened up a wall to make a repair and was amazed to find the redwood. I still looked new and it is 50 years old.
The last few houses I've owned, Yellow pine was used and let me tell you, the termites loved that stuff. I hated living in a house knowing that the bugs could be eating away my investment and my sanctuary.
So, I would suggest building with either cement and metal or cement block and redwood or cypress wood.
Cost will be a lot more up front. But you will sleep like a baby knowing .... F them termites.
