Looking into these and still have a lot to learn about them.

From what I think I know:

-They provide heat and cooling.

-Mitsubishi can also just circulate air and do inside/outside air exchanges.

We may not be able to afford it right away, but put something like this in a year or so later...But I can plan for location and run the wire ahead of time during the build to have things ready.

K, you have the wood stove and a infared heater at this time?...any other heat source? (body heat from dog's doesn't count)

Gravel, don't know how often you will use the air circulate up north but the whole house exhaust fans are pretty common here in the south.

Only hassle is that you have to open up all of your windows.

Are you thinking to use a mini split in each room or just the larger rooms? From my heat transfer class I believe Radiators are great at large rooms while forced air is better for large rooms. I'll double check that.

IC, Looking more at the aspect of the indoor/outdoor air exchanger to keep indoor air quality good.

As for the layout of the house...one bedroom, one bath, one walk in closet and a big main room for kitchen/dining/living room...not many rooms...pretty simple...not a lot of interior framing.

Wife is concerned about having heat that has a thermostat...in case we get old/disabled and can't feed a coal/wood stove...I think we have time to come up with a plan to address this down the road.  For now the coal/wood stove and a couple of infared heaters will more than do the job.

The air exchanger I think I can figure out...just need to know what I need...ha

don't forget to add a cold air entry into your house to feed the woodstove/coalstove, we just popped in a 3 inch pipe out the wall

and ran the pipe inside the wall venting to where the woodstove is roughly

Yup, gotta have the outside air for combustion!

You find the 3 inch line is enough or would you recommend two lines?

I see that your intake is up high and then comes down...no issues with getting a decent 'draft' there?  I was thinking I need to have the intake lower?
