so the day we went to get the cows, we were working on the fence and the compressor was in the yard, we left it there, thinking we would continue the fence when we got back, well while we were gone, it down poured, now, when the tank is totally empty, it fills right up, once it's at pressure and your using it, when the pressure drops and it kicks on, it just whirs and sputters, so we have to totally drain the tank and fill it back up
help me obi-wan homesteaders, you're my only hope!

figured it out, extension cord was too long. It had to much internal resistance and the pump couldn't overcome the pressure that was in the tank.

That wasn't an issue when you first started it (before leaving)?
I would have just taken it all apart, cleaned it, and re-assembled it. From my days working as a manufacturing engineer trouble shooting things: 9 times out of 10 - power.

that's basically what we did, I plugged it in last week when we were redoing some fencing and it worked fine, added another cord to reach the back corner and it started happening again, sometimes the simplest answers are staring us right in the face
