My uncle did something similar back in the early 90's when they were remodeling their house, it was a year long process and I remember walking in the house and he had spray painted Bob Villa Sucks! That still cracks me up, he did it a little different though, he used 2x4's and stood them up on edge and screwed them together as he built it

I am pretty depressed I see this now. We spent $800 on cherry butcher block counter tops from Lumber Liquidators and, while they look nice, I would rather have the $750 back in my pocket compared to this project.

One thing with these wooden countertops is water damage. I constantly worry about this.

I've built a few. There was never any water damage, you just need to take care of them and fix any gouges you put in them.

those look pretty good.

she just used adhesive, no other mounting brackets or anything?

I actually prefer the open pine look with a ton of poly on it. we are talking about how we'd do it in our kitchen.

interested in more from dunc!

I would screw on a cross piece every so often so it rests inside the cabinets, if spaced right, then you could screw through the sides of the cross pieces into the cabinets for attaching and then there would be no need for the l-brackets
