K, I think this will make you smile. Tim, my excavation guy...when he started out 33 years ago he bought an old Ford backhoe, back then they were pretty much a small farm tractor with a FEL and bolted on hoe. Tim only took jobs within about 8 miles of his home. At night after he worked on his dad's farm he would drive the backhoe to the job site with his bicycle in the FEL, then he would ride his bike back home. In the morning he would milk, then ride his bike to the job...you see, he couldn't afford a truck and a backhoe, he made use of what he had and he had a bike. Tim has grown into one heck of an operation over the years. Not sure too many people would start a business like that anymore.
great story and I agree

Hey there guys...yes, where I wanted to be going into winter.
Very clean dig and site...great excavator guy!
I know it's a lot of overkill to have got it dug and stoned, then let it set for the winter...want to make sure of two things 1) that everything is settled as much as possible. 2) that when the weather breaks we can set forms and go.
We have great gravel laden soil that is good on the drainage and good to bear weight.
Not interested in pouring in the winter...miserable work, expense, and safety is a concern with slips and falls.
Working on pricing out material at this point and will probably order lumber so I can build my window and door bucks this winter.

Yesterday was a good weather day for this time of the year. I dropped a couple of trees that would be kind of an issue for the extension of the power lines. On the left is an Ash tree that I dropped and cut into fire wood. Front and center is a Black Walnut tree, that was between the back corner of my barn and where the lines will be extended. In a few years both of them would be growing into the new power lines, so I took them down now rather than later. The Black Walnut stump is pretty cool in the second pic...most of the color is natural, but the very outside at 12 o'clock is also where it was hit by lightning years ago. Not to sure I want to chunk up the Black Walnut for fire wood, not sure if it will stink.
