How has the pad been holding up in all this rain? Any soft spots?

I was out there 2 days ago...looks good.  No pooling of water (decent rains but minimal snow this year).  I can't see any area's that settled, nor did I expect any.  A couple areas where some dirt/stone fell in, but not more than a few shovel scoops here and there.

Overall, very happy with the way it is holding up/settling...I don't think it is going to settle at all though since the ground is so good there.

I very happy we got it dug and that it will go through the freeze/thaw of winter to really settle things in.

Got most suppliers lined up.  The basics are in place: Block, rebar, Rigid insulation, Windows, doors, garage doors (very expensive).

The two big things hanging out are plumber and possibly heating.

Plumber, got a lead on a licensed plumber pull the permit and have inspection (have to have a Master Plumber License) for DWV here and they must make the connection into the Septic Tank.  This guy is about 8 miles away and we know a lot of the same people.  I am thinking he will be about $1,500 less than the other guy.

Heating, well she wants a 'regular system' too, something with a thermostat.  We are doing the wood/coal stove and will have a few infared's for back up (which you can set a temp for).  So I am talking to a company that will do ducts/air exchanger/propane forced air.  Initially it looks like 9 to 12 k!  Depending on a forced air vs mini split.  I am like No Way.  I can pick up a simple air exchanger and run a simple duct in the knee wall for what it needs...for about 1k.  Just can't justify 9 to 12 k...there are other options down the road...plus this style house won't take much to heat...I plan to spend the money on upgrading to spray foam upstairs...which will be more effective in minimizing overall heat need anyhow.

P.S.  anyone have a spare pencil sharpener.

Just get an electric wall mounted heat pump, will cost about 2500 and can handle heat and ac, very efficient.

Talked with Heating Company yesterday.  Came in at 19K...no way...that was for a force air system with air exchanger and furnace OR mini split with heat and AC.  Great company but top dollar...no way.

K, what mini split did you get? 30 amp?  Did you install it yourself?  Hard? One delivery unit or two inside....might be a great separate thread...thanks!

I don't have one, yet. Everyone up here installs Fujitsu's. Depending on how this winter and summer are with heating and cooling we may be putting one up in the cabin. My neighbor installs them, he says they are simpler than hell. If you have any questions fire away, I'll ask him.
