So I have a dilemma; when we bought the new place, it came with a pretty decent supply of firewood - roughly 2 cords of birch and hickory. Since we moved in, I have noticed said pile slowly dwindling away despite the jonathco family rarely having a campfire on the homestead. Our neighbors however, who do not have acreage, have a fire 3-4 nights a week in their backyard. Despite not seeing them take wood, I have noticed a common trend... Their fire pit will have no wood stacked next to it in the evening and the next morning they have a wagon full of birch and hickory firewood stacked neatly by their pit. Coincidence? I am thinking not.
Given that I have already had words with them this spring about their two adolescent boys rip-snorting around property on dirt bikes (without permission), I am hesitant to go over and accuse them of petty theft - especially, since I have not seen them take it. They have lived in this town for a long time and are well connected with the community; since we are new in the neighborhood, I do not want that reputation with the other neighbors. I had already intended to build a firewood crib, but now I think I am just going to make sure that whatever I build is lockable and cannot be easily accessed if someone hypothetically wanted to help themselves.
TL;DR Anybody have some sweet plans for a secure locking firewood crib?
what about a peeled log woodshed like pork made, put cattle panels around it with a simple door on the end, would still get circualtion pretty decent

As a guy who heats his home 95% with wood I know how much work went into that woodpile. I would be pretty steamed, enough to do something stupid most likely.
I like the trail cam idea. Even if you don't do anything with the info, at least you KNOW whats going on and if you can trust your neighbors. I woulda probably gone full camo and black face and staked out MY wood pile, but then again people do say that I tend to over react to somethings and under react to others.
Are you planning a shed out there any time soon? Maybe bump that project up. You could store wood and some camping gear in it, all locked up. and then build a wood pen off the side of it at some point.
good luck

I agree with KVR. I would build a large and simple lean-to to cover the wood and then surround it with cattle panels and a locked gate on one end -- supported with a trail camera.
I have read a lot of stories like this, never had it happened to me though, and showing up at the front door and talking to the parents about how you have pictures of the kids (never claiming the parents knew, condoned, or performed the theft) stealing wood is usually enough to stop the crime in the future. You have to give the parents the 'out' on fixing the situation first -- even if it is them who need the fixing.
