Went to the Farm today and met up with my mason buddy Vern.  We got our diagonals and staked and lines strong for the footers.  If things stay on track we should be laying footer next weekend.

Sorry there are no pictures, hard to see much in the couple of pictures I took.

Time to order form boards (2*10). they will become the top plates later in the build.

The following users say thank you to Gravel Road for this useful post:

Good call on re-using them. I wastefully burned mine because the wood that was used was recycled. Regret every minute of it.

Just called lumber yard.

Ordered up my mix of 2x10's in PT and Doug Fir, screws, wooden form stakes, 1x3 strapping to keep forms from spreading,  5# double headed nails, the big contract bucket of screws to j gusset join the 2x10s and to support the form boards. Also order a full bundle of 48 sheets of 4x8-2inch think rigid insulation (still will need more, but this will get me started.

Called the Mason Supply house and ordered Rebar: 28 #5, 47 #4, plus wire ties and nylon/plastic chairs.

....going to call block company later this week and get prices and delivery lined up for block and dura-wall (zig zag stuff).

....mortar mix and surface bonding will come from Mason Supply house (family owned and friend...I toss him as much business as I can).

One very cool thing for us:  We have Quick Crete batch/bag plant right here, only about 15 miles away...less screwing around with bags that have gotten moisture in them.

....crap, just remembered this all is going to cost $$$...

interested in what you pay for the block, I think we were right around 2000 for a trailer load, I believe it was 960 blocks total

Just got off phone with block factory.

10" block (18" long, mix of sash/end block and runner/stretcher block - some of each style on each pallet) $2.01 each (really? a penny on the end)

10" bond beam block (only 16" available) $2.72 each

Zig Zag stuff: Actually called Horizontal Joint Reinforcement.  10' lengths at $4.00 each

The 'special' "L" shaped corner blocks are at $2.81 each

I have the contractor price right now.  I might be able to get Dealer pricing...will know later this week.

Got to re-figure my block count and get a $$$  I am thinking about 4 k for this part of material...see how close  I am ( I think the actual will be under)

Question that I noted on KVR's build. Can you save time by pouring into forms already lined with foam? I know KVR laid foam down, poured on top, dug out around, placed foam, then re-tamped. Can you lay down the foam on the bottom and the sides before pour? This should save some time. You'd screed to the foam but... oh well? I was also wondering about using foam as forms? You'd still have to hold them up somehow, that part may negate the speed bonus.
