I would make it so the center area can be used during col or bad weather, but I like the inegration of outdoor and indoor space

I love dogtrots, I associate them with older houses. My neighbors house had one growing up which was screened in on the ends. We kids played long hours in there on summer nites! Kids don't play like that much anymore.
