Well if you remember the pit greenhouse failure you remember we had found another source of water, never one to waste a valuable resource, we decided to tap into it.

First thing I wanted to do was to clean out around the pit a little more

We had to clear everything out of the way we had removed so far

much better

I had some crushed stone hauled in to build up a good percolating material since most of our soil is heavy clay

Once we had that established, we need to clean out the bottom of the pit a little better

I bought a couple of 35 gallon trash cans from wally world

and drilled out 1 inch holes around the base of the cans

5611998862_32823d9575_z.jpg

and stood them up in the hole

I dumped some of the crushed stone into the bottom of the cans for weight and a basic filtration

and started filling around with the crushed stone

all complete

5611423881_0c0e1c3e4b_z.jpg

a couple of hours later we had 5 or 6 inches of water

5612008736_ee063394df_z.jpg

the next day we had just under a half a container

5612414353_85222c2184_z.jpg

and two days later we were full

Success!

so I went and checked the wells today, they have quite a bit of water even though the ground is still frozen

I flipped the ice over and it looks like we had a little swimmer that didn't make it, I'll be sanitizing that one

I think you can expect that to happen quite a bit. Might need a grate or some other cover to prevent it. But it sure is nice to have an addional water source out of thin air like that. great job, again.
