I have a similar thing in mind (using the soda cans) for a heater for the winter. Going to rig up some computer fans and make a little solar panel for them to draw the air thru from top to bottom-one fan on inlet and one on outlet. I might try this for a dehydrator (on a smaller scale) and hook the fans up to that to increase the airflow. Also putting some holes in the bottom of the cans to make the air swirl a bit so it goes thru better-the air is going to be snaked thru the cans. Not sure you need to do that for this application but I will do it for my heater.
