A guy from my son's boy scout troop makes pallet stuff, and I was talking to him a bout it one day, and he shared something interesting.  Maybe it's common knowledge and I'm just dumb, but the first thing you do is powerwash the pallets.  He says they go through a lot of use, and you have no idea what's on them and the last thing you want to do is be breathing that dust.
