Ok guys, sorry for the late reply have been real busy lately. If the project is late its ok. She wants one anyway. I have sawed it up & someone told me to put it in the freezer, hope this doesn't ruin it. I am gonna go the mineral oil route, btw. Will try to get pics, tomorrow.

BTW, I have access to large trunks of oak, mesquite & pecan. I used mesquite not only because the grains look so cool but because it stands the test of time. Oak & pecan seem to split & crack easy. They have their uses too, though like center pieces, tables, bowls, lamps, etc.

Also, the slab is pretty green(not seasoned/dry). I have one that is super dry but it seems if I use that it might split easy.

I forgot lol. Kill germs and stuff? I took it off already & it was in the process of drying. I also forgot the damn mineral oil, will pick some up tomorrow. Having a party for my nephew & I have been up & downtown is the reason for the delays.mesquite

Not the straightest cut but I love the grooves. I'll be using this mainly to chop up cooked meat, btw. Here's meemaw in a moomoo going to town with some pulled pork.

I really want to, is that bad? It looks freakin' cool with it on. On a side note, the project will not be ready for Vday. No one carries mineral oil, just spirits. I will have to order some online & I am too tired to go all the way to some hobby stores 30 mins away.Cry
