this is pretty slick, steel connector kits that got from a 4x4 all the way up to a 8x8, these would be great for a small cabin

That's awesome. Looks like it would be ~$220 per roof hip of the building -- 2 hips and so ~$440 for that building in the picture. Not bad at all. I am going to bookmark this for whenever we need to build another structure.

Hmmm, looks good! I might go this route whenever I get started on the cabin.

agreed, if you could saw your own timbers, this could be a very cheap option

I want to research how many "hips" you need per lineal ft. Would be interesting to know how many of these kits you would need for the size of my shed -- 12x24. My cost for the build was ~$3700 -- I wonder if I could have gotten by with less.

Found the info -- linked from a PDF on their page. They also make 4x6, 6x6, and 8x8 connectors. Those things would be freaking huge. I bet you could build a whole (smaller) barn out of these that would be very stout.

For the 4x4 connectors...

EDIT: I started day dreaming about trying to build an addition with these but I believe our snow load for code is over 50psf for roof strength -- looks like this one is only 40psf. So good enough for a non-living structure but I don't think for a residential building. Am I wrong?

I think that last one is 50, it is saying 40 snow load 10 dead load, I would ask them the total rating, found this other product
