I dont want to break the bank here, I just want something that will work and last me a while.

Brands? Models? Features?

Tell me what I need to know to get quality.

do you really need a cordless? For a fraction of the cost you can get a corded drill that will have more torque and won't leave you hanging with a dead battery

I would go buy the cheapest Ryobi or Black and Decker you can find. Unless you plan on working it hard I think a cheap one would hold up pretty well. I wouldn't recommend buying a used drill off of Craigslist because the battery could be worthless, and that gets expensive.

FYI I had borrowed a cheap set Ryobi 18V tools and I practically finished the whole inside of our house with it. It did everything I asked it to do -- same as the high end RIGID stuff I bought to replace it.

I agree with pork, any of the brands from home depot or lowes, ryobi, rigid ect will do the job, I had my ryobi set for years and it also helped build our house, unless you were drilling concrete or something you should be fine with out a corded. Stay away from dewalt and such unless you are getting the commercial ones, the cheaper sets for homeowners have plastic gears versus metal ones in the commercial ones and they won't hold up as long, craigslist is a good recommendation, you might be able to score a how kit for pretty cheap

I'm a big fan of Dewalt products, they're rugged and last a really long time. I've had my drill going on 7 years now and she's still strong.I'd go for something like this:

It's a few extra bucks, but you get two batteries (which are like $100 by themselves anyway) so you can always have one on charge. Plus you get an extra tool. If you just want the bare bones drill or impact driver or drill you can get them for like $120 with one battery.
