DD...is that a hill nearby? maybe build steps in the hill and use a barrel per step in sequence.

And the monkey presses the button.

why not just put the barrel up the hill? that will give you your pressure.

That was actually my first thought, and still a possibility. The only factor I haven't come up with a solution for is how to keep the barrel / hose line from freezing this winter.

Any ideas?

how cold does it get where you are?

maybe you can bury the line and a big part of the barrel.

you could also put a heating cable or sheets around it like those:

You could even setup a little solar system with a battery or something

wait a minute, can't you just put the barrel on the roof of the shed? that would give you something close to your 8ft

It gets to be 20ish during the day a good portion of the winter. I could technically put the barrel on the roof, but it's only tin so stability would be a big concern. I thought about building a large platform right next to it, but the heck if I'm digging those dang post holes lol! Plus no quickcrete available right now (using it all for the house project). Also, putting it up still doesn't solve the freezing problem, so until I figure that out I'm kinda stuck on this one. We also don't really have the cash to spend on a heating element at the moment unfortunately.

I'm pretty sure I've settled on just bringing it up to the house once we get the running water situation figured out. Right now were just using a sump pump that hangs in our rainwater tank, but the plan is to get a pump for the pressure tank in the next few months here, so once that happens we'll have the means to run the washer with normal water pressure.

That is, unless I can Macguyver something that works and will keep working all winter.

find a squirrel a day and put it in the barrel. The squirrel will swim to survive and its body heat will prevent water from freezing.

you are welcome
