We bought our new place going on 3 years ago. It had 50 acres and a house that was stick built by a young minister and his wife. He worked as a lumber grader at a local mill and was able to get good deals on materials. When we bought it he had lost his job and the house was about 60-70% finished. The entire house was wrapped in glaringly ugly Tyvek with a green metal roof and the old original house was standing empty and derelict out front. But we took one look at the remoteness, the absolute quiet, the beautiful old stonework in the spring in the hill, the 2 creeks.... and in less than a week we'd been to the lawyer, signed papers and were waiting for them to move out! We moved in right after Christmas and it snowed every day till Spring!

In the Summer, we had some Amish guys come and start an attached granny flat across the back of the house for my mother and my younger brother. They did the outside framing and closing in. While they were here they offered us a good deal on tongue and groove knotty pine siding which we loved the look of! Here is a pic of how the siding turned out. Please excuse the messy yard... we are always working and some day we might get done, lol. There is still a lot of work to do on the inside too!

Very beautiful place. I was a lumber grader for many years myself but the industry is having a pretty hard time lately. 50 acres... i'm so jealous.

Thanks for chatting with me about the house. I would have replied sooner but my internet isn't working right. Been having issues for 3-4 days now. We have HughesNet and usually it works great but right now its going nowhere fast! It took forever just to load that one picture. Right now we are working on building raised bed gardens in the front yard. I know thats a strange place to put them but I need them close to the house. The deer are terrible here and eat everything in sight!!!
