We had a discussion last night on slow sand filters. Khun has a laundry next door who's greywater runs onto his property and he would like to utilize it. I recommended this book, I have it in my library and it's probably one of the best ones I have seen on the subject.

This website gives a basic run down on the book

it can be found cheaper on amazon though

here is a video to make a small scale sand filter

and a slightly larger model

feature=related

you can also order pre made ones for a house size all the way up to a large community size, last time I looked at the prices they started around 900 dollars I believe

like chia had pointed out if you want to use your grey water you want to filter out any solids, I know mike reynolds and chiras use basically a cheese cloth bag to filter, a example can be seen here

we had also touched briefly on solar distillation and uv treatment

Chia has designed a industrial water recycling process at a washer and dryer manufacturer for their test units

also this book by mike reynolds goes in depth into the grey water systems incorporated in earthships

Just pointing this out, I have not designed an industrial waste water facility. I designed an industrial water recycling process at a washer and dryer manufacturer for their test units. I do have experience with industrial and municipal waste water facilities. As well as municipal water treatment facilities.

i saw that slow sand filter vid a few days ago and read some of the comments on it, looked like some people had taken an issue with backwash or something, i'm no engineer so i don't know jack. i'm not sure how it is any different (besides plastic vs concrete) than the popular ssf plans that look like a face and are donated to villages around the world.

i'd like to make one of these right away, just don't know where i'm going to source the sand yet.

lol. It's fine. I just didn't want to give anyone the wrong idea. You can get rid of the follow up posts from me if you wish.
