Funny... having the same discussions with our son at almost 16. I see no problem with it, except I did stipulate he still has to be a part of this household. Kind of like it's a satellite bedroom. He cannot just go out there and be in there 24/7 to the exclusion of all else! He's a different kind of kid though...already has a plan mapped out for his future etc... He is planning one good sized room that he can add onto because he wants to stay here. He's planning on trade school instead of college, doing electrician and heating and cooling. I think the plans he drew up were 12 x 20 which would make a nice kitchen later. Its an exciting age to be, with all your dreams still ahead of you!

Are you going to start on it this summer?

Earth said it best, but a lot of it has to do with the child involved. There are some kids I wouldn't trust to have their own room. lol

I don't have any children, but yes, I would. She'll still be on your property so not really far away at all, but to a young person coming into their own, establishing their own independence helps build both identity and self esteem. She'll still need and want mom and dad, but this is a natural progression that will help her grow into the person she is bound to become.

Would it be possible to build the cabin in such a way that it has a use once she is gone in a year? It would be a shame to do all the work building it and then she leaves and it sits there. Or can you kick your pops out? Kidding...

If she builds on the far side of your pond she will need her own ATV for coming and going and you will have a cool pond house for the future.

yeah, would want to look for a use for the future, to be honest though, it would be nice to have a guest cabin
