This has been a long time coming. I am a suburnt and broken man and it is still not finished -- hopefully will be done in the next 2 nights weather permitting.

Got some fence...

Got some other materials...

img20130518133714.jpg

Found a hognose snake(linked here for info http://www.michigan......--,00.html)

We will be whitewashing the fence

Garden section laid out

img20130518145457.jpg

Raised beds made -- they have 1/2" hardware mesh on the bottom to stop animals from digging up into them.

img20130518161043.jpg

Getting close -- left side is not screwed on

img20130519172852.jpg

Notice the hardware mesh -- hopefully 1/4" will keep out nearly any critter

The corner -- all of this will be covered up with mulch

img20130519201651.jpg

Have to finish the last side and gate tomorrow night with whitewashing to follow thereafter.

Man, that's much nicer than mine. All I've got is plastic fencing stapled to 1x1 stakes.

Thanks for all of the compliments. They really go to my wife -- if it was me there would be a mixture of t posts, deer netting, and some plywood out there.

Here is a picture as of this morning. Basically done but I want to reinforce the gate some more before the whitewashing begins. We also are up to get some rain over the next day or two so that may delay things.

KVR -- yes, this is the first garden out there. We started building in August 2010 so this is a big milestone for us. My wife is now really getting into the whole homesteading thing -- it has always been just a thought or idea but now it is becoming more of a reality -- chicks, garden, etc. She attributes her new motivation being the book you sent and the support we get from this forum. Kudos!

Awesome, glad she enjoys the book, it was hard deciding which one to send you.

Whitewashing was insanely labor intensive. Started yesterday and finished today. We mixed the hydrated lime with water very thick -- it was more of lime paste instead of liquid whitewash. We just wanted the mixture whiter than the liquid form looked. I think it goes on normally clear and then dries white. We couldn't wait and just mixed it thicker.

Mixing it up -- we used a lot of lime -- more than one would think.

The inside of the fence is painted now too. The water is gone now too -- it rained a lot recently.

I am going to pick up a few yards of composted soil tomorrow to fill the beds.
