Agreed, seems a little overkill though but I guess it depends on the ground conditions in that area.

Looks like they used good material for back fill...but there seems to be clay on the overall dig.  Looks like over kill, but I would be mad as heck if I had to dig up a drain and re-do it.  Peace of mind.

Would be worse if you used 1 inch insulation instead of 2 😉

not sure I follow you...because the 1 inch is not as durable?...where are you going with that...you mean digging up?

Got ya...2 inch is just going to be the way to go...less screwing around and it's done to the best of my ability. 

At Speeds place the floor seemed pretty good.  I feel good with the 2 inch and I can't justify the work/cost/hassle of pex in the floor.  I have a couple of university studies on the in-floor heat in a well bermed house, they say not needed..let me dig those up this weekend and see if we can get them posted in a new thread.
