never done it before and it's a skill I want to learn, I have a couple ideas in my head that I want to form in metal. For those that weld, which of these 2 classes would you take?

BEGINNER WELDING 10 week class
$200

Would you like to learn how to weld in a hands-on, low pressure setting?  Then this is the class for you.  Beginner welding focuses on stick and MIG welding of mild steel.  Students will also learn oxy/acety welding and cutting. Introduction to plasma cutting will be included during one of the class sessions.  This class is designed for the beginner who has never touched a welder before and/or the seasoned student who needs a refresher course.

Welding, Introduction To 8 week class
$139

this 8-week course provides a basic introduction to welding in different phases: mig welding and heli-arc, torch welding, brazing, soldering, and basic metals.  By the end of 8 weeks, students will be able to do small projects.  Materials fee: $75, payable to the instructor at the first class.

I don't know if you would take me up on this or not but I will help you find a proper welder for what you would like to do for projects and teach you how to use it. All you would need to do is purchase a welder and supplies. Whether you spend the 200 or the 139 plus 75 for a material fee your losing money that can go right to a good welder. All I'm saying is I have books and the ability to teach you if you would like, I also have a good welder to practice with to start before you even purchase one if you would like. All you have to do is ask.

I thought of that, but trying to set aside the time when we are both off is difficult, that's why I was thinking a class would be easier. On a side note, you interested in taking that beekeeping class next week? It's at 6:30 pm and at the local store where we get the pig feed from

That's really cheap.  I've looked into welding classes here as a possible career change and even through the community college it was like $4k or $5k.

Not even sure what that is (or if we have it here), but I figured community college would be the least expensive way to go.

Didn't hear about the beekeeping class. Sound's cool, would be a good skill to know. As far as the time off with each other isn't too bad. Mostly what I would teach you is angles of approach, speed and what to look for. Its mostly you just welding and getting a feel for what your doing.

i would take the one that lets you touch the most types of welding.

that way you can try them all and then you can choose better what to buy depending on you needs, likes and budget.

maybe you'll find out doing the class that a cheap arc welder would be enough for your needs. instead of buying right away the most expensive MIG system.

Also it's probably the only way you can try all types, unless you buy thousands worth of equipment to have them all at home.
