The American Southwest and Central Plains could be on course for super-droughts the like of which they have not witnessed in over a 1,000 years.

What I was trying to say was that due to greed/profits we have people going hungry now. Feeding people does not = profits so we let them die.

So in order to stave off a catastrophe we need to stop this international shipping of foods and manipulation of the markets to see just what shape we might actually be in.

So even though Farmboy thinks the two are not related they are very much related. If we can save the US and other countries from wasting 30% of what is produced and stop Multi-Nationals from reaping rewards from not even selling food we are ahead of the game. In fact we just created 30-40% more food going to market in the World. Without changing anything but free trade and corrupt profits.

I've been thinking about water a lot lately. With the toxic wast spills, and ground water being contaminated, and drought. I feel fortunate that I live in an area that (at least for now) has abundant water.

One of my concerns is everyones dependance of bottled water. I just did a buycott scan on deer park spring water. It is owned by nestle along with many other bottled water companies. it is in nestle's interest that our water continue to be poisoned. I refuse to buy bottled water. I have a Berkey filter. It seemed expensive in the beginning, but if you calculate the cost of bottled water it is actually qquite a savings in the long run. But more than that, it is one small way that I can say NO to the coorporations that are trying to own everything.

As a homesteader I am committed to living as much as possible outside of these systems.
