Moving things around at home...a couple of radios that we have on hand, work on AC adapter, AA batteries, and hand crank.  They have a combination of SW radio, NOAA, AM/FM, and TV pick up...the one can even hook to a cell phone to hand crank a charge.  I know..LLBean stuff, price was fair, but they are good quality and are great when we camp and would be good in an emergency...another part of us having peace of mind...just in case.

we have this midland which works pretty decent along with 36 mile handheld units

my wife and I did a test and the handhelds work up to two miles before they go kaput

Its a gmrs radio, it works with the handheld units, they say 36 mile range but that is basically only line of site open water, on land the best we have gotten is a two mile range, great for hunting, out in the woods behind the house, etc
