A STARK reminder of Earth's vulnerability to objects flying about in space will arrive on Friday in the shape of asteroid 2014-YB35.

Travelling at 23,000mph, it will pass within 2.8 million miles of the planet.

That may seem a long way off, but in astronomical terms, it is frighteningly close.

Cause for particular concern is its size.
