I was talking to my daughter about what has been happening, her schools plan is to lock the classroom doors and hide under the desks, I told her if she starts hearing gunfire, to take her chair and throw it through the window and run like hell while calling me, I will be there in three minutes. I have communicated this to several people last night at work and the reaction to that was mixed. Am I wrong in this?

I wish i had the answers for those that have children. I think i would start by asking your kids what drills they have already had at school. I think i would analyze the physical barriers the school intends to place between your kids and a attacker. Do they exist? Do the doors and locks work? Are they substantial?
I think its always a good idea to have a plan and an out route no matter where you are.
Time is of the essence.
I think i would ask myself if the schools plans for your children are viable based on the drills and the average response time of "help". I would consider you spend time thinking to whose benefit the plans are for....
I would consider what the plans the first responders are going to implement when they arrive and how they are going to react to you....

Most schools drills are simple. Teacher locks the door, all students go to the corner of the room away from the door and the view through the door window. Stay there till given the all clear sign.
It is actually effective if the teacher locks the door quickly and if the students remain quite. Loud noise can attract the attention of the shooter. Most school wall are cement block and the provide a good barrier to stop stray rounds.

Except there is no way in hell you are going to be able to teach tactical response to kids that young.
This is correct. There is also no way to prepare adults who have not spent time as their brothers keeper. Most civilians will arrive after an incident. What are your plans if you arrive before? If you take action will you be mistaken for the shooter?
I will suggest you look land ask questions ahead of time. A large percent of the doors and locks in a lot of schools dont function. Do you think a deadbolt will stop a determined burglar in your homes? Why would you assume it will in a school.
Know what the school is going to do, try and find out what first responders are gonna do, plan accordingly....cause its all you can do.
