Any of the Michigan members dealing with this?
LANSING, MI — A once-common childhood disease is spiking across Michigan this spring, prompting heath officials to call for greater emphasis on vaccination.
Forty-five of Michigan's 83 counties had at least one reported case of chickenpox between Jan. 1 and April 30, according to state data. Total number of cases in that window is 239, a 57 percent jump in cases over the same period in 2015.
Most of the 2016 cases are sporadic, but health officials say seven Michigan counties have reported 9 specific outbreaks of two or more related cases.
Oakland County has the most reported cases, with 22, followed by 17 cases in Ingham County, 14 cases each in Muskegon County and Washtenaw counties, and 12 cases each in Grand Traverse and Hillsdale counties. (See map below for all cases)
