well new to me anyways, my buddy got a whole house generator so he was getting rid of this.

We wired the workshop for generator backup as well so I figured I would use this down there, debating on converting it to propane.

Very sweet!

You ever look into a 'whole house' propane back up generator?...the permanent kind.

you should look into a backup genny that runs off biodiesel since you will be able to produce that soon.

Naw, we have a cheap husky generator that we converted to propane a couple years ago, it runs the whole house fine since we have such a small electric load, it's basically just lights, outlets and a freezer

Do you use a transfer switch or back feed you panel (I know that is controversial)?  ...but it is less expensive, need to turn off main breaker in order to not back feed the grid.

...okay...

so you have just the 30 amp breaker that the generator feeds?

and not catching on here, you back feed that breaker?
