I too, am moving towards the propane generator. We'll keep the smaller gas one we have now as a backup or to lend to family/friends/neighbors if they need it. With the gas rationing and shortages in play now, it seems a better idea to go with propane which is more storable at a larger volume and with better longevity.
I didnt have the generator wired to the house through a transfer switch, either. I think I'm going to do this in the next few weeks. Just having the well pump available is worth the investment to me.
We also learned that we need to eat what we prep and prep what we eat. A bunch of canned beans in the pantry dont really help if you're not going to eat beans. Granted, we were only without power for 4 days and we had pleny of options, but I never got to the point where I just really wanted some beans.
