thoughts on this?

A group named The Citadel is hoping to build a community in the mountains of North Idaho made up of thousands of households. The project would be a "martial endeavor designed to protect residents in times of peril" and "built as a fortified bastion of liberty," according to the group's website, iiicitadel.com.

The plan is to build the community — with a fortified castle and firearms museum, and typical city features like a bank, jail and library — south of Coeur d'Alene. It would have 3,500 to 7,000 families living on about 2,000 to 3,000 acres, according to the website.

But the fate of the project is very uncertain, according to the group. It isn't clear yet whether it would even be built in Idaho.

just prior to 2000 a group of internet friends I had met had given this some serious thought. I had a very young baby boy and didn't feel safe enough and decided against it.

Plans fell through as many others decided it just wasn't the right thing to do at the time.

It really takes complete commitment to do something like this. Everyone has to put forth 100% effort. Slackers could ruin a good thing.

2000 acres couldn't come close to providing for 7k families. And if I was going to do something like a community, it would not be something any newspapers would be made aware of.

you would need at least 1/2 acre per family. One acre would be better.

It would be cool if a bunch of friends did it... but 2000 random "survivalists" would be kinda rough. When KVR closes on that island, we can give it a shot :)

I find that mentality a bit too cult like for my tastes.
