I planted root vegetables and garlic.  I had no idea you could plant all the other families.

I accidently discovered root vegetable seeds would overwinter and germinate as early as possible when I first started gardening.  I planted a bed of parsnips and turnips late one summer, hoping for a fall crop.  They never came up that fall, but were growing well enough to need thinning when I went out in late March. I pulled a bunch of half grown root vegetables and put a row cover over the rest.

We had roasted root veggies the other night from our garden.  Just tossed them in some red miso paste diluted with a little chicken stock and tossed them on a cookie sheet.  UUUUUUUUUUUmami!

We had the same thing happen one year, we found carrots on the other side of the yard when we were planting some berries one spring, still don't know how the seeds got all the way over there.
