So I wanted to make some lasagna last night and I decided to make it in my dutch oven, unfortunately, all I had was whole wheat flour. I had never made whole wheat pasta before; so I figured what the heck, let's do this.
So I gathered some supplies.
- Flour
- Eggs
- Sauce
- Sausage
- Mozzarella
- Ricotta
- Garlic
- Parmesan
For those that have not seen the pasta making steps. http://thehomesteadi.....ade-pasta/
I ran the dough through the pasta maker and kept them as long sheets.
I grabbed my dutch oven.
And started layering the sheets; overlapping them to make sure the pan was covered.
We had browned up some of our pork sausage and layered that first.
Followed by ricotta.
Pasta Sauce.
Mozzarella.
I trimmed some of the overhanging edges and layered them on top.
I repeated the process.
Layering the last of the pasta on top.
I finished it off with some sauce, Parmesan and garlic.
I set the lid on the dutch oven and put it into the oven at 400 degrees for 1 hr and 15 minutes.
It wasn't half bad!
A change I would make, I will boil the pasta next time, I always just use dry noodles when cooking lasagna traditionally and the whole wheat was just a little chewy yet.
