So I figured I would spend a few bucks to make use of a derelict planter sitting in my backyard. I have never actually done anything like this before so I'm kind of nervous, but excited at the same time. Any suggestions are appreciated!
So I started with some 2x6 and some weedstop. I had to make my boxes 2x2 due to space limitations.
Had to turn the earth and remove a bit to level the planter some.
I used water to compact the soil.
Then I thew down some weedstop.
I used some crappy Miracle gro "Organic" soil, and mixed with pearlite. Also mixed in some peat moss (not pictured) to fill my raised beds.
About an inch of grow mulch to top it off (and hopefully hold some of that water in)
Finally used some mason twine for the grid and tossed some bark chips down for looks.

I'm thinking I will probably need to run some kind of drip irrigation this summer ( it gets HOT here and the sun is relentless). I was brainstorming how to set it up when I glanced over at the unused jacuzzi...
I have been renting this house for 6 years and have used this thing maybe 2 times. As a hot tub it's pretty useless (only gets to about 95 degrees) but I see a huge reservoir just waiting to be tapped.
Also, I was going to plant a few things today, but the forecast calls for foul weather tomorrow so I decided to hold off until the morning to assess things.

looks good, what are you planting?
I have some cucumbers, spinach, green onions, cauliflower and spinach started in my window at the moment. I also have some carrots, but I'm going to do those and the potatoes in 5 gallon buckets I think.
