Sorry I haven't posted an update in forever, as some of you know I had my computer melt down on me and just bought the components to build a new one this afternoon. The garden is looking great tho, and I will post some pics in a few days once I get my system up and running. I just wanted to drop in and say hello and that I missed yall but I will be back on shortly!

Thanks Kvr! I got my rig working last night so it's official! Glad to be back I missed this place. Here's that garden update as promised!

Corn is in beast mode.

Cucumbers in back, lettuce up front! The cuke's are just starting to form the first little fruits... how exciting!

Cauliflower is looking hearty, but as you can see, I've had some problems with these green caterpillars feasting on the leaves. Other than that they are looking great tho!

Carrots coming along, I really ought to do them in 5 gal buckets next time

Thanks! I am kind of having some pest problems tho. In addition to the cauliflowers I noticed quite a few small black egg clutches on my lettuces today. I don't want to use any pesticides so I think I might harvest the 3 heads that are ready today and hit everything with some diatomaceous earth, which will hopefully give the little buggers a bit of a harder time. I'll try and get a pic up later if I can find one of those eggs clusters.

Thanks for all the tips everybody! Yeah Khun, I'm having to water the cucumbers every day, I have to give them about a quart each so you were right on the money.

Exile27, I actually did move my lettuces after I harvested the first bed. They are in a much shadier spot now and seem to be taking it a little better than the first batch (which were really good btw!)

I harvested my first carrots the other day, they went great in a pot roast even though they were pretty stubby lol

Thanks again for all the tips everybody, I will keep this thread updated as things develop.

Time for an update!

Corn seems to have topped out (for now, but what do I know lol)

gH6Pg.jpg

Used some scraps from my crappy anti pooch fence to make a makeshift trellis for the cukes

This one's looking pretty good!

QVu7U.jpg

This one is coming along as well

Cauliflowers are out of control, when will they start producing heads?

l6vBv.jpg

The tomatoes are strong

Q1yj6.jpg

So's the lettuce, I cropped the first run and they were really good!

WdyPg.jpg

Onions are coming along nicely. About 3 or 4 weeks from harvest. Also my sole dill survivor looks pretty hearty too.

My little jalapeno is going to make it too! Can't wait to pickle some of those bad boys!

i liberally use diluted dawn dish detergent from a spray bottle as a cabbage moth deterrent. you have to reapply after a rain, but if you don't get your foliage too wet when you water, you don't have to do it very often.

if you encourage birds with feeders and houses, they will take care of a lot of your pests like cabbage moths and slugs. marigolds and nasturtiums are good companions to plant around your garden and they are supposed to irritate pests and little animals like rabbits.

i'm having trouble with a groundhog this year, so i'm going bill murray on this little guy. i'll be in the greenhouse tomorrow morning with my 10/22 and we'll take care of the problem.
