We were talking on here the other day, I can't find it now, about the price of butchering a hog. I said I thought it was $1.70 a lb. I don't know why I said that...it's .50 a lb. It cost a little more for getting something smoked. Don't know what i was thinking.

We are getting between 5 and 7 eggs per day. The seedlings that I started in feb are starting to go outside. I have the peas soaking to go in later this week! It is time to start tomatoes and peppers, but I don't have anywhere to put them. Grr.

Our fall planted out side spinach is up! Spring really is coming!

Left overs from last year, turnips and a few chard,

Spring garlic and spinach,

Seedlings starting to harden off

And a bed of volunteer collards

Sweet! Looks awesome.

Is that happening outside right now? If so I need to move south.

Some of it is outside. The seedlings are going in and out depending on the weather. It has been brutally windy here the last few days so they have stayed in. It might get into the teens tonight so I covered the outdoor guys.

WV is a really great climate for growing food

We got the hog back yesterday. Hanging weight (no head, skin, guts or hooves) was 180 lbs. Butcher said she weighed around 250 or so. We got around 120 lbs. of meat. The sausage is in the fridge and we're going to cold pack it.

I've got another hog, it weighs about 130 lbs. and instead of butchering her we are going to smoke her and have a big shindig at my cousins. A bunch of drunken hillbillies piggin out. Music, Shine and hog meat, gonna be fun.
