By the way, the screw on canning lids like on honey jars work really well to use over

In the interest of decreasing reliance on outside goods, have you ever tried the old fashioned parafin wax method? I think the wax is reusable, but othere than that I dont know much about it.

could, I would probably boil off the parafin to skim and separate any left over food particles, the usda looks down on it due to safety reasons, but I know plenty of people that pack their salt pork in lard for the winter, same principle, your just using the lard to keep the air out, I think I made a thread about preserving pork chops in lard, let me see if I can find it
