The one thing I have found to be a little tricky so far is proper hydration. Sometimes my beds seem to wet and other times bone dry.

I would like to rig up something like a PVC pipe above it that is hooked into a hose which just lets out a little trickle of water over the beds. Im not sure that is realistic or would work......

You can pound some posts into the ground and then tie down some short chicken wire around it, that should keep most things out.

thin out the weaker ones, as far as fruit trees they recommend cutting off the fruit the first couple years to give the tree time to put more energy into growth than producing fruit, as far as hydration, heavy mulching of the beds will help with water retention

Drip irrigation systems are really easy to set up and maintain, and they aren't that expensive either.

I like Peaceful Valley Garden Supply for most of my stuff but you will probably be able to find the components at Home Depot or other gardening outlet.

Here's the link to Peaceful Valley's website: http://www.groworganic.com

Direct link to their drip irrigation stuff: http://www.groworgan.....ation.html

Update and Experiments:

Most things growing well. I fucked up the first few squares of lettuce by planting too many seeds too close. I thinned one out, will see how it does

have an interesting experiment going with cascadia peas. have one box perfect, only planted nine seeds, they all sprouted. anothe square, i planted 18 and thinned to 9. another square i planted 18 and instead of thinning, i tried to transplant 9 into my yard. I guess this stuff doesnt transplant too well, but we will find out

i did a similar thing with squash/zucchini. trying to grow in my yard (i put down some soil, not sewn directly in my yard), i planted 20 seeds somewhat close together (10 hole, 2 seeds per). they all sprouted, i transplanted a fair amount. I expect some to not make it, but if i have 10 squash bushes, i mean, that is potentially a lot of squash

my herbs are just doing ok. will check out the herb thread in detail
