I've noticed a lot of places don't carry grain seeds, and we don't really have much input on growing grains on the boards. Anyone have any experience growing wheat, barley, oats, rye or other grains for consumption? I'd love some input if anyone has tried this.

Also, I found a place that sells verified organic, non-gmo heirloom seeds for all kinds of grains if you want to give it a try.

Bjpencil sent me some amaranth seeds last year that I did not have good luck with at all, he on the other hand did, but he also lives in mississippi. I'll send him a pm and see if he can log in and comment on how he harvested and such

I've grown amaranth with great success! I've thought of growing sorghum as well. There is a great website you should check out...

I used the leaves for salads and stir fry. It is, IMO, more delicious than spinach. It is actually one of the most nutritious greens out there. The seeds, on the other hand, I used many different ways. I popped them like popcorn and mixed them with sunflower and pumpkin seeds and honey to make breakfast bars. I boiled it like rice and ate it with my meals and sweetened leftovers with honey and cream for a warm breakfast cereal. It's a very versatile grain.
