I got one Almond tree in, but it seems the japanese beetles think it's their own personal buffet.

They're after the apples, too.

Ive been hand picking them off and spraying with Neem oil, but they're tearing them up pretty good.

Im on the lookout for some beetle bags...I read about hanging them over the chicken run and cutting a hole in the bottom.  Kinda stacks functions permaculture style,IMO.  Draws the bugs away from the trees and gives the chickens get a steady stream of protein.

Im planning on ordering some chestnut seedlings and getting them in with some hazlenuts, but that wont be until next year.

Also, I ordered a bunch of seaberry seeds. If I can get them up to seedlings, maybe I can offer some out if anyone's interested.

haha, I know what you mean.....I didnt mind when my neighbor had them up in his!

Not exactly sure what Im gonna do. The last two seasons they have been really bad.  I did read that they  hate soybeans and I planted a few heirloom soy plants around my cherry trees and so far (knock-on-wood) they've been left alone.

May have to weather the storm this year and next season plant a ton of soy into the swales.
