I debated posting this on the "is everyone's garden done" thread but decided to start a new topic.

I mentioned before that this was my first year gardening and at the end of summer I decided to try some fall crops. I planted lettuce, kale, carrots, arugula, spinach, carrots and two kinds of cabbages. Well everything looked to be doing nicely. I put some plastic sheeting over them for row covers and have kept the frost off of everything. I was pretty happy with how all the plants were doing. Well my wife and I were in the hospital for 5 days for the birth of my daughter, our second child, and we were discharged and came home today. Eventually I made it out to the garden and was shocked by what I saw. There were a bunch of mole holes inside the beds. They ate the leaves off of all the carrots, all four cabbage plants, munched on some of the lettuce. The spinach

was attacked and I think some of the kale, too. For the more experienced people out there, what's the best way to handle this? Traps? Poison bait? I didn't have this issue in the summer so I don't really know what to do.
