So last week for the first time I made my own bread. I found this recipe from the hobby farms website and made a loaf, Whole-wheat Bread. The cost was about $1.60 for the loaf and if I can find bulk whole wheat and yeast the cost would go down further. Normal cost of a whole wheat loaf from the grocery store is between $3.50-$4.00, so it was about half the cost to make.

I was pleasantly surprised at how good it looked though it was fairly dense and a little on the doughy side, I have read this is fairly common with 100% wheat breads.  Any recommendations?

biggest thing is to really work it to get to a elastic state, but whole wheat can be really hard to do that, here is a more typical sandwich type bread we make

for pics, you can't link from gmail, but if you click on the upload attachments button on the lower left corner right above the smilies, you can upload it directly here if you don't have a flickr, photobucket, etc account
