A lot of people struggle with different areas of cooking in today's world, here is a great reference

Excellent resource! If you remember, my entry for the essay competition you ran a while ago was on the importance of being able to cook. it's a skill that is often disregarded as unimportant or unneeded in today's world of take out and "boxed dinners".

Being able to take some basic ingredients and whip up something that's not just edible, but tasty and nutritious as well is a super important thing to learn how to do, and in a disaster scenario could really mean the difference in making or breaking morale.

Great post!

I'm super excited to read through this! I have recently decided to begin doing homesteading style activities in our apartment so we are well prepared when we finally make a transition onto property.

The first thing we are tackling is kitchen and food. I was going to and will still do a post on our recent activities, but some changes have been replacing "non-stick" pans with good quality stainless steel clad pans (and learning to use them), getting rid of plastic utensils, getting professional grade kitchen towels and ditching the sponge + making our own disinfectant cleaner.

Danger - I'll look for that essay, I'd really like to read it, do you or KVR remember the thread title by any chance?

Edit: For those who may want to read it - http://thehomesteadi.....th/page-3/

There appears to be other good info there also.

I'm considering taking the Rouxbe classes. It's $300 initially and then $5/month after for access. I'll let you guys know how it is if I do it.

Nice, another option would be to check your local college or adult education, they usually have cooking classes relatively cheap, nothing like hands on experience
