Cool article. Onion didn't rate very high, but that may not tell the true value. In the UK during the WW2 Victory Garden period, Onions were one of the most scarce food items around. They were the most in-demand item requested (besides meat), and they were often given as awards at community meetings.

I can't imagine cooking without them. I could live without Cilantro, but no way could I enjoy my food sans onion.
